The first arrival of an 18,000-TEU vessel to North America marks the beginning of the Port of Los Angeles quickly becoming a major player in trans-Pacific shipping. According to the Journal of Commerce, Los-Angeles based APM Terminals set the standard for the management of mega-ships, processing the enormous CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin in less than sixty hours of operation. They averaged twenty-nine lifts per crane every hour, with two hundred container moves each hour.

Los Angeles and Oakland ports reported no congestion issues at the gates and container yards processing the larger cargo surges.
